Bulova Pocket watch with email documentation from the Bob Hope Memorial Library, Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration NY. This pocket watch was a retirement gift; Engraved on the back is the Name Ward Mathewson, from employees of Ellis Island Oct. 31st 1951. This would be a great gift or addition to an Ellis Island memorabilia, U.S. Department of Justice collector. Please refer to the pics of the physical condition of this ~70 year old time piece.Wars Mathewson was a guard at Ellis Island and as such was an employee of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Justice.
In October 1951, he was at the point of retiring, as he was quickly approaching his 65th birthday. Ward Mathewson was born in Bushnell, Illinois, December 20, 1886. After his retirement, he and his wife Gertrude eventually moved to Clearwater Florida, where he died in April 1968, at the age of 81; his wife died in 1985 at the age if 94.
