    A number of boxes and carriers were developed for and used by the Shaker sisters.   After all, there was once a time when the art of being a seamstress was considered essential to the household.  But as far as we know there was not a box that was specifically used for storing spools of thread, a Shaker invention.  It is believed that the Shaker Button Box was occasionally used for this purpose but was not specifically designed to hold spooled thread, a Shaker invention.
